Cycle data is not a step count
Anyone who reads your cycle entries learns more about you than from most other data: how you are doing physically, how you sleep, when you have your period – and over months, this creates a very personal picture. Cycle data are among the most sensitive health data of all.
For us, this results in a simple standard: A cycle app should be built so that this data stays with you – even if you don't want to blindly trust the provider. That is exactly how we built Bauchgefühl. Factually, without drama: Here is what that means in concrete terms.

Data protection is ultimately a question of the business model: An app that lives off advertising has a built-in incentive to know as much as possible about you. Bauchgefühl lives off subscriptions – you can test the app for free for 7 days, after that you pay for it like a product, not with your data. Frequently asked questions about data privacy
Can Bauchgefühl read my cycle data?
We don't read your entries. On your device they are kept in an encrypted database, and the app encrypts backups before uploading them. So that you can get your backup back even without your old device, the app by default stores the backup key, encrypted, in a vault with us. With the default vault, operator access is technically possible and would be logged; releasing the backup key from the vault via the app requires an email code. With “Only with my own code”, the vault packages are deleted. After the vault packages are deleted, you need your recovery code or an available platform key sync. The vault and release by email code are only available once you have the corresponding app update; until then, a restore works only with your recovery code or a platform key sync (details in the privacy policy).
What happens to my data when I change phones?
That's what the encrypted backup is for: your data is backed up and stays encrypted. It becomes readable on your new device once you confirm the restore – with an email code, your recovery code or an available platform key sync. A restore requires a usable backup and the matching key. The vault and release by email code are only available once you have the corresponding app update; until then, a restore works only with your recovery code or a platform key sync (details in the privacy policy).
Is my data sold or used for advertising?
No, neither. Bauchgefühl shows no ads and does not sell data – the subscription is our only business model.
Can I delete my account and all data?
Yes, at any time and directly in the app – without an email to support, without a notice period. Deleting your account removes your data, including the backup. Our account deletion page shows you how to do this step by step.
Why does my phone calculate the evaluations itself?
Because data that never leaves your device is the best data protection. Reminders, phase calculations, and evaluations are generated locally on your phone instead of on a server. This has a second advantage: your cycle view also works without an internet connection.
