Cycle data is not a step count
Anyone who reads your cycle entries learns more about you than from most other data: how you are doing physically, how you sleep, whether you track fertile days – and over months, this creates a very personal picture. Cycle data are among the most sensitive health data of all.
For us, this results in a simple standard: A cycle app should be built so that this data stays with you – even if you don't want to blindly trust the provider. That is exactly how we built Bauchgefühl. Factually, without drama: Here is what that means in concrete terms.

Data protection is ultimately a question of the business model: An app that lives off advertising has a built-in incentive to know as much as possible about you. Frequently asked questions about data privacy
Can Bauchgefühl read my cycle data?
No. Your entries are stored encrypted, and only your device has the key. Even we as operators cannot view your cycle data in plain text – not just out of loyalty to principles, but because it is technically built that way.
What happens to my data when I change phones?
That's what the encrypted backup is for: Your data is backed up but remains encrypted – only readable again on your new device when you log in there. You don't lose anything when switching phones, and yet no one can peek in while it's in transit.
Is my data sold or used for advertising?
No, neither. Bauchgefühl shows no ads and does not sell data – the subscription is our only business model. We couldn't meaningfully pass on your cycle data anyway because we can't read it ourselves.
Can I delete my account and all data?
Yes, at any time and directly in the app – without an email to support, without a notice period. Deleting your account removes your data, including the backup. Our account deletion page shows you how to do this step by step.
Why does my phone calculate the evaluations itself?
Because data that never leaves your device is the best data protection. Reminders, phase calculations, and evaluations are generated locally on your phone instead of on a server. This has a second advantage: your cycle view also works without an internet connection.
