In the calendar

What you see in the period calendar

Log period in two taps

Tap the day, mark bleeding, done. The more consistently you log, the more accurate all predictions become – that's all you have to do.

All 4 phases color-coded in the calendar

Menstruation, follicular phase, ovulation, luteal phase – each phase has its own color, and the legend in the calendar explains every color and symbol without you having to memorize anything. You can see at a glance why you have so much (or so little) energy today, without counting a single day.

Next period prediction

The app calculates based on your previous cycles when your next period is likely to start. No more surprised looks into your handbag – you'll know in advance.

Fertile days, honestly estimated

Ovulation and the fertile window are estimated with an uncertainty of about ±2 days – and that is exactly how we communicate it. An estimate, not a method of contraception.

Spotting and symptoms directly on the day

Spotting is not a period: It gets its own marker and is excluded from the cycle calculation – your prediction won't be distorted by a spotting day. Tracked symptoms like headaches, cramps, or mood appear as small dots on the respective calendar day. This helps you recognize patterns – for example, that migraines almost always occur two days before your period.

Honest comparison

Period calendar on paper vs. app

Many people look for a "printable period calendar" – and that's not a bad idea: a paper calendar costs nothing, doesn't need a battery, and no one can access it except you. If you just want to record, when your period was, it is completely sufficient.

Its limit: Paper doesn't calculate. Predicting the next period, estimating fertile days, connecting symptoms into patterns over months – you have to do all of that yourself on paper, every cycle anew. An app takes exactly this work off your hands.

Record

Paper: Checking boxes – works

App: Two taps – works on the go too

Next period

Paper: Count and calculate yourself

App: Predicted from your cycles

Fertile days

Paper: Rule of thumb in your head, prone to error

App: Automatically estimated (±2 days)

Patterns over months

Paper: Only visible with a lot of discipline

App: Symptom points and trends show them to you

Spotting

Paper: Easily blurred with your period

App: Custom marker, does not affect the prediction

Reminder

Paper: None

App: Reminds you before your period arrives

Fair is fair: If you want to track offline intentionally, you can't go wrong with paper. You can read about how Bauchgefühl protects your data if you choose the app under Data protection in the cycle app.

Thinking ahead

The calendar is just the beginning

Once you know which phase you are in, you can work with it: Bauchgefühl shows you what is happening in your body during each phase and suggests recipes that fit – such as magnesium-rich dishes in the luteal phase when cravings kick in. We explain what defines the four phases under The 4 cycle phases explained simply.

If you are trying to conceive, it is worth taking a closer look at the fertile window – our Ovulation calculator estimates it for you directly in the browser. And what belongs on your plate in the days before your period can be found in What to eat during your period?. An overview of everything else the app can do is provided on the page Cycle app at a glance.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the period calendar

How accurate is the period prediction?

The prediction is based on your logged cycles: The more periods you document, the better the app knows your personal pattern. With a reasonably regular cycle, the estimate for the next period is usually accurate within a few days; fertile days are estimated with an uncertainty of about ±2 days. A prediction is not a guarantee – stress, illness, or travel can shift any cycle.

What if my cycle is irregular?

Then a calendar that calculates along with you is even more useful – you can see over several cycles how much your cycle length actually fluctuates, instead of just guessing. The prediction becomes correspondingly less certain with strong fluctuations; take it as a guide, not a fixed date. If your cycle is permanently shorter than 21 or longer than 35 days, this should be discussed in a gynecological practice.

Does spotting count as a period?

No. Spotting is not menstruation – that's why you enter it separately in Bauchgefühl. It is marked specifically in the calendar and is not included in the calculation of your cycle length. This way, a spotting day before your period does not distort your prediction.

Can I log past periods?

Yes. You can enter periods retroactively and correct entries – the prediction then automatically recalculates. This is especially worthwhile at the beginning: log your last two or three periods, and the app will start directly with a useful estimate instead of average values.

Does the period calendar replace contraception?

No, explicitly not. The fertile days in the calendar are an estimate based on your previous cycles – ovulation can shift by days at any time, and sperm survive for up to five days. If you want reliable contraception, talk to your gynecologist about suitable methods.

Is the calendar also available as a widget?

On the iPhone, yes: The Bauchgefühl widget shows you the cycle day and current phase directly on the home screen – without opening the app. For a quick check in the morning, a glance at your phone is enough.

No more counting: The calendar does the math for you
