The difference

More than just a red dot on the calendar

Most cycle apps answer exactly one question: “When is the next period?” That is useful – but your cycle influences every single day: your energy, your mood, your hunger, your sleep. Bauchgefühl combines tracking with what you can do with it: recognize patterns, get timely reminders, eat according to the phase, and understand what is happening inside you right now.

Track without calculating

Enter period and spotting, done: The app shows you all 4 phases in color in the calendar, predicts the next period, and estimates ovulation and fertile days with ±2 days of uncertainty – honestly stated instead of pretending false precision.

Recognize patterns instead of guessing

Track symptoms, mood, and energy in seconds – even custom symptoms that no standard app knows. Trends, statistics, and the hormone curve show you over several cycles what is actually connected: for example, that your energy low always falls on the same cycle days.

Eat what fits the phase

The AI generates recipes based on your phase, your symptoms, your ingredients, and your available time. Plus, a swipe feed for discovery, your own recipes to save, and a portion calculator – cycle syncing without a degree in nutrition.

Understand what is happening right now

Daily insights and knowledge articles explain what is happening hormonally in your current phase – brief, well-founded, without technical jargon. Five types of reminders nudge you before your period arrives, not after.

Plain talk

Is Bauchgefühl free?

No – and we'd rather tell you here than on the payment screen. You can test Bauchgefühl for free for 7 days, with all features and cancelable at any time. After that, the app requires a subscription.

Why no free model? Because with apps, “free” almost always means: the money comes from somewhere else – from advertising or from your data. With cycle data, arguably the most sensitive health data of all, we want neither. The subscription is the price for your data remaining encrypted with you and the app having only one interest: that it benefits you. How this looks technically is described under Data privacy in the cycle app.

Buying guide

What you should look for in a cycle app

These four questions are worth asking for any cycle app – even if you don't end up choosing ours:

  1. Where does your data go?

Cycle data is health data. Check whether the app stores it encrypted and whether the provider can read it themselves. With Bauchgefühl, only your device can do that – not even us.
  2. How honest are the predictions?

Reputable apps state the uncertainty of their estimation (with us: ovulation ±2 days) and treat spotting separately from the period so that the prediction doesn't get skewed. Distrust any app that "guarantees" you ovulation to the exact day.
  3. Can you create your own symptoms?

Your body doesn't stick to pre-made lists. If you can only choose from 20 standard symptoms, you'll miss exactly the patterns that are personally relevant to you.
  4. Is there advertising in the app?

Ad-funded health apps have a structural problem: Their business model rewards knowing as much as possible about you. A subscription model is more honest – you know exactly how the provider makes their money.

Deepen

Understand first, then track

A cycle app is only as useful as your understanding of the cycle behind it. What happens in the 4 cycle phases is happening hormonally, you can read up on it with us without an app – just as you can estimate your fertile days directly in the browser with the ovulation calculator. How you adapt nutrition, training and everyday life to your phases is explained in the cycle syncing guide; the complete overview is provided by the Guide to cycle-syncing nutrition. And if you are primarily interested in the calendar: How the period calendar works.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the cycle app

Is Bauchgefühl free?

You can test Bauchgefühl for 7 days free of charge – with all features, cancelable at any time. After that, the app requires a subscription. We say this so directly because 'free' cycle apps have to earn their money differently: with advertising or with your data. We want neither. With the subscription, you pay for being the customer – not the product.

What distinguishes Bauchgefühl from other cycle apps?

The connection between cycle tracking and nutrition. Most apps stop after telling you which phase you are in. Bauchgefühl turns this into something concrete: AI recipes that match your phase, your symptoms, and the ingredients in your fridge – plus daily insights and educational articles that explain why your body is ticking the way it is right now.

Can I create my own symptoms?

Yes. In addition to the predefined symptoms (cramps, headaches, mood, energy, and more), you can create and track your own symptoms – for example, something as specific as "jaw tension" or "craving for salty things." In the trends, you can then see if your symptom occurs more frequently in certain phases.

How accurate are the predictions?

The app learns from your logged cycles. With a regular cycle, the next period is usually predicted to within a few days; ovulation is estimated with an uncertainty of about ±2 days. Important: These are estimates and not a method of contraception – ovulation can shift at any time due to stress, illness, or travel.

What happens to my cycle data?

They are stored in encrypted form so that only you can read them – not even us. Your phone calculates reminders and evaluations itself, and there is neither advertising nor data selling. All details can be found on our privacy page in the cycle app.

Do I need a regular cycle for the app to make sense?

No. Tracking is especially valuable for irregular cycles: You see in black and white how much your cycle length fluctuates and recognize patterns through symptom trends that you would otherwise miss. The predictions become more cautious in the event of strong fluctuations – the app displays this honestly instead of pretending to be precise.
